Here’s a quick walkthrough of some custom text formatting in Notion. Good luck on your journey to improving Notion page aesthetics!

$\color{#4fb0ae}\Large\textbf{🎨 Applying Custom Text Formatting in Notion}$

Notion enables the use of KaTeX functions in the $\color{#459998}\small\textsf{formula}$ block type. There are two methods for using this with different visual implications:

  1. $\color{#459998}\small\textbf{In-Line Formula Formatting}$: This allows you to use $\color{red}\small\textsf{custom}$ formatting for $\color{#E017FF}\small\textsf{individual}$ words in a single block, better suited for improving the visual quality of your Notion templates.

    1. Steps to Reproduce:
      1. Method 1
        1. Type $$ to indicate the start of in-line formula text
        2. Apply the appropriate KaTeX visual functions, such as \\color{#459998} or color{red}
        3. Apply the appropriate text formatting functions, such as \\textsf{enter your text here}
        4. Close the in-line formula text with $$ and Notion will automatically process your KaTeX modifications
      2. Method 2
        1. Type your formula \color{red}\textsf{Hello!} as normal text

        2. Highlight your formula and press cmd/ctrl + shift + e or select the Formula option from the in-line text formatting bar

  2. $\color{#459998}\small\textbf{Formula Blocks}$: This allows you to use custom formatting, which is more suited for visually displaying mathematical equations, however can be used as a ‘hack’ to center text in Notion (as seen below).

    1. Steps to Reproduce:

      1. Type /formula in a new block and select Block equation
      2. Apply the appropriate KaTeX visual and text functions as above in In-Line Formatting
